Abstract
This paper proposes a novel approach to enhance the detection of Primary Synchronization Signal (PSS) sequences in 5G New Radio (NR) systems. The current 5G NR PSS sequences have suboptimal correlation properties, comparable only to random-phase sequences. To address this limitation without modifying existing network infrastructure or mobile devices, we introduce a new detector design that supplements the deficiencies of the current PSS sequences. Our approach involves using a non-matched filter with assistive sequences. We formulate the problem as an optimization problem with linear constraints, and discuss ongoing work as well as activities planned for future research.
