Abstract
This paper presents a study on the design and implementation of a web playback framework capable of efficiently rendering stereoscopic 3D media content in web environments across various platforms, based on scalable 3D media codec technology. With the recent surge in online media consumption, users are increasingly demanding immersive and vivid visual experiences through realistic content. Stereoscopic 3D media content, in particular, offers users a sense of depth and immersion that provides a viewing experience unparalleled by traditional 2D content. In this paper, we propose a web playback framework that applies scalable encoding technology, demonstrating its ability to deliver high-resolution 3D media content in a stable and consistent manner within web environments. Experimental results show that the proposed scalable 3D media web playback framework (S3WPF) can successfully stream stereoscopic 3D media content at 1920 × 1080 resolution and 30fps in real-time across various web environments. This confirms the framework's practicality and commercial viability, as it meets the quality level required for commercial OTT services.
