Abstract
In pursuit of higher compression efficiency beyond the Versatile Video Coding (VVC) standard, the Joint Video Experts Team (JVET) is developing the Enhanced Compression Model (ECM) as a platform for exploring next-generation coding technologies. Among various intra prediction tools, Template-based Intra Mode Derivation (TIMD) derives prediction modes at the decoder side without mode signaling and further improves coding efficiency through candidate fusion. In this paper, we propose a selective fusion method for TIMD that skips the blending of a non-angular mode when two angular modes exhibit high similarity. Experimental results show that this approach eliminates redundant fusion, thereby improving prediction accuracy and enhancing coding efficiency.
