로봇 분야에서 보편적으로 사용되는 ROS 2는 DDS(Data Distribution Service) 기반의 분산 아키텍처를 통해 기능 단위의 노드를 LAN 환경에서 유연하게 분산 배치할 수 있는 이점을 제공한다. 이를 활용하면 로봇 본체의 하드웨어 제약을 극복하기 위해 SLAM과 같은 고부하 연산을 LAN 내의 로컬 서버로 쉽게 오프로딩(Offloading)할 수 있으며, FogROS2나 rapyuta.io는 이러한 구조를 클라우드 환경까지 확장한 로봇 분야의 대표적 시도 및 운영 사례이다. 나아가 다종·다수의 로봇을 운용함에 따라 로컬 컴퓨팅 자원의 확장성과 고가용성이 요구될 경우, 로컬 서버들을 클러스터화하여 관리하는 것이 필수적이다. 이때 쿠버네티스(Kubernetes)는 엣지 클러스터의 복잡한 자원 오케스트레이션과 안정적인 서비스 운용을 위한 사실상의 표준이자 가장 현실적인 대안으로 자리 잡고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 쿠버네티스 기반 엣지 클러스터 환경에 ROS 2 시스템을 통합하여 이를 로봇 엣지 클러스터로서 운용하기 위한 기술적 타당성과 운용 방안을 분석하여 다음과 같이 정리하였다. 첫째, 네트워크 라우터들을 GRE(Generic Routing Encapsulation) 터널로 결합하고 WeaveNet CNI를 적용함으로써, 이기종 네트워크에 분산된 워커 노드 내 ROS 2 Pod 간 토픽 송수신이 가능함을 확인하였다. 특히, 이 과정에서 NVIDIA Jetson 계열(Nano, Orin) 단말을 이 클러스터에 편입시키기 위해 필수적으로 요구되는 네트워크 관련 커널 모듈들을 구체적으로 식별하였다. 둘째, 라우터와 NVIDIA Jetson 단말 간 GRE 터널 생성을 통해 무선랜 환경의 로봇 단말이 쿠버네티스 클러스터에 직접 참여하고 ROS 2 토픽 송수신을 유지할 수 있는 구조를 검증하였다. 셋째, 쿠버네티스 API 서버를 통한 중앙 집중식 오케스트레이션을 활용하여, 단일 인터페이스 환경에서 다수 로봇 단말에 대한 컨테이너 배포 및 호스트 제어가 일괄적 또는 선별적으로 가능함을 확인하였다. 이는 로봇 관리를 위한 별도의 전용 에이전트 도입 및 업데이트 부담을 줄일 수 있음을 시사한다. 넷째, 이동 로봇의 특성인 무선 네트워크의 빈번한 단절 및 재연결 상황에 대응하여, 로봇 단말에서 실행되는 Pod의 상태를 보호하고 서비스 연속성을 유지하기 위한 Pod 설정 최적화 방안을 도출하였다. 마지막으로, 초기 부팅 단계에서 무선 네트워크 문제로 쿠버네티스 컨트롤 플레인과의 연결이 지연되더라도, 쿠버네티스의 정적 Pod(Static Pod)를 활용하여 각 로봇의 필수 기능을 수행하는 Pod들을 독립적으로 우선 구동할 수 있는 컨테이너 실행 환경을 구축하고 그 유효성을 검증하였다.
