- Abstract
- This paper presents the standardization trends of Ambient IoT technology discussed in 3GPP Release-20. Following the Rel-19 standardization focused on indoor passive devices, Rel-20 expands the scope of Ambient IoT to support outdoor deployment scenarios, active devices, topology-2 operation, and positioning functionalities. This paper summarizes the key objectives and technical aspects discussed in the Rel-20 Study Item, including enhancements to the air interface, support for active Ambient IoT devices, outdoor deployment scenarios, and localization mechanisms. Furthermore, the paper introduces the direction of the ongoing Rel-20 Work Item and discusses future evolution toward massive ultra-low-power IoT services.
