Abstract
This paper proposes an input common-modetolerant StrongARM latch using source followers. Although a conventional StrongARM latch offers near-zero static power and fast regenerative decision making, its pre-amplification gain, inputpair overdrive voltage, and regeneration condition can change significantly as the input common-mode voltage varies. This paper presents a sourcefollower- assisted StrongARM latch that reduces the common-mode-dependent input-referred noise (IRN) variations, which enhances design margin of noise for proposed comparator-based high-resolution ADCs. Simulations in a 65-nm CMOS process show that the IRN variations over an input common-mode sweep alleviated from 78.6% to 40.2%, corresponding to a 48.9% reduction in input common-mode-induced noise variation.
