Abstract
This study presents a model-based control for an outdoor air damper in a real-life factory building. For this purpose, a physics-derived virtual sensor was employed for estimating outdoor air rate. The estimation was achieved by energy balance equations as well as measured temperature data (TRA, TOA). A simple polynomial regression model was developed to predict outdoor air, return air, and supply air flow rates in terms of the opening ratios of mixed and return air dampers. As a result, the control could maintain temperatures within ± 0.5℃ of the setpoint while satisfying airflow constraints. Also, the simple model-based control could achieve energy savings of 19.4kWh for a winter day compared to the existing control (26.3 kWh).
