Abstract
Recently, a concept of Broadcast Positioning System (BPS) has been emerged to sustain critical infrastructure while the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) connectivity is absent. BPS is a positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) system that exploits terrestrial broadcasting networks, where the recent proposal has been described based on the ATSC 3.0 architecture. This paper introduces a BPS development project in South Korea to establish practical terrestrial time transfer system. To build a practically applicable system, a design compatible with single- frequency networks is proposed. Baesd on a trial implementation, working prototype and a preparatory field trial at a broadcast transmitter site are also reported, including preliminary 1 pps edge-alignment observations under line-of-sight and multipath receiver placements.
