Abstract
This paper presents a compact high-efficiency broadband circular array antenna for Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) payload applications. A low-profile broadband cylindrical helix is employed as the unit radiating element, and a shielded air-strip feed network composed only of conductors is introduced to minimize loss and enable high-power operation. A 28-element three-ring circular array with sequential rotation and broadband phase compensation is designed to achieve wide bandwidth and excellent circular polarization. The fabricated prototype operates over 1.15–1.6 GHz, covering the SBAS L5 (f=1.176 GHz ± 12 MHz) and L1 (f=1.575 GHz ± 12 MHz) bands. Measured results demonstrate gains of 18.7 dBi and 21.3 dBi at L5 and L1, respectively, with axial ratios below 1.13 dB within the 3- dB beamwidth and antenna efficiency exceeding 91%. The proposed antenna satisfies SBAS transmit requirements while maintaining a low-profile and mechanically robust structure.
