Abstract
Large-area, compliant load sensing enables shelf-level inventory monitoring without requiring a dedicated sensor on each item. Here, we present a flexible sheet-type sensor array based on a 0– 3 piezoelectric ceramic/polymer composite integrated with an electrode-patterned polyimide FPCB. In capacitive sensing mode, the array showed a monotonic response over 10 g–2 kg, achieved a response contrast of up to 7:1 between adjacent cells, and enabled six-channel frequency-domain multiplexing over a shared two-wire bus with a mean normalized frequency shift of 8.8%. The same electrode pair also supports piezoelectric dynamic sensing, yielding an output sensitivity of 554 mV/N and a phase delay of 141.5 μs at 1 kHz. These results demonstrate a scalable sensor- sheet architecture that combines static load and position sensing with dynamic detection of loading and unloading events for smart-shelf inventory monitoring.
