Abstract
This paper presents an overview of the design and control of sensor modules for a robot platform, which is intend to move by the user's intention. The approach infers the user's intention using a recognition system that utilizes the pattern of the user based on measured data obtained from sensor units. The sensor modules used for detecting the user's intention consists of a mode selection module, two hand sensor modules, two foot sensor modules, an inertial measurement sensor module, and two wired and wireless host modules. The recognition system extracts the appropriate feature data from the sensor data, and recognizes and classifies the mode using a statistical modeling scheme. We performed some experiments to test the recognition system.
