Abstract
This letter introduces a new FSK modulation for low energy critical infrastructure monitoring (LECIM) networks, where it is crucial to facilitate low energy operation necessary for multi-year battery life of endpoint devices. By increasing the modulation order with on-off signaling based on position (or time-shift), the resulting position-based FSK scheme enables power-saving transmission at the endpoint device. Theoretical analysis and simulation results verify that the proposed modulation is suitable for LECIM networks. © 2012 IEEE.
