최근 주파수 채널 기반의 HFC 망은 신호 손실이 적고 잠재적 대역폭이 큰 FTTH(Fiber to the Home)와 같은 필더 솔루션이 각광받게 되면서 망의 진화와 대역폭 효율화에 그 어느 때보다도 절실한 압력을 받고 있다. 따라서 국내외적으로 차세대 케이블 망(Next Generation-HFC; NG-HFC) 진화 기술에 대한 관심이 증대되고 있다. 채널 본딩 기술을 포함하는 DOCSIS 3.0과 같은 고속 데이터 전송 기술, SDV(Switched Digital Video) 기술, DVB-C2 와 같은 고효율 변복조 및 채널 코딩 기술, RFoG, PON과 같은 근접-광(Deeper Fiber) 기술 등 케이블 주파수 대역을 효율적으로 사용하여 대역폭을 증대하고 망의 유지 보수성을 높이기 위한 노력들이 진행되고 있다. 본 고에서는 HD/3D/UDTV와 같은 고화질 고용량 비디오 서비스뿐 아니라 멀티스크린, 스마트 서비스에 이르는 진보된 서비스들을 제공하기 위한 차세대 케이블 망 전송 기술과 진화 방향을 기술한다.
